INITIAL TELEPHONE CONSULTATION

I am happy to arrange a telephone call free of charge to discuss concerns regarding your child and how I can help.


HOW CAN I HELP YOUR CHILD?

I offer highly specialist Speech and Language assessment and therapy to support the development of speech, language and communication skills in the following areas:

  • Attention and listening

  • Language delay

  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

  • Articulation difficulties

  • Speech Sound Delay and/or Phonological Awareness difficulties

  • Speech Sound Disorder (e.g. Inconsistent or Consistent Phonological Disorder)

  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)

  • Social communication difficulties such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Selective Mutism or speaking anxiety

I use a total communication approach including Makaton© signing system, visual symbol support and multi-sensory environment. Assessment and therapy sessions are tailored to your individual child’s needs based on likes, dislikes and communication needs.


INITIAL ASSESSMENT

A full assessment will include a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s speech, language and communication needs:

  • Parent meeting which includes a detailed case history

  • Meeting with teacher or key worker (if in school/ nursery)

  • Informal observation in school or at home

  • Formal standardised assessment and/or detailed informal assessment

  • Verbal feedback following the assessment

  • Summary report with targets or a detailed written assessment report (this will be discussed prior to assessment)


THERAPY

Individual therapy sessions can be offered at your home or at your child’s school or nursery on a regular, weekly basis depending on location and availability.  

Sessions are usually 30 or 45 minutes in duration, depending on your child’s individual needs. A summary of the session will be sent following the session to provide links between school and home, as well as provide advice around activities that will be beneficial to practise in order to ensure continued progress.

A programme and evidence based targets designed specifically to suit your individual child will be discussed and agreed at the beginning of each term, these will be reviewed during each session and at the end of each term in the form of a brief summary report.

  • Colourful Semantics

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Articulation therapy

  • Nuffleld Dyspraxia Programme

  • Core Vocabulary Therapy

  • Attention Autism

  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

  • Intensive Interaction

  • Emotional regulation strategies such as “Zones of Regulation”

  • Social thinking; social stories and comic strip conversations

  • Visual aids such as Makaton © signing system and Cued Articulation

  • Lego therapy (group or paired session)

  • Classroom support as well as training for staff
